THE STORY

In the villages along the Adriatic coast, women kept a ritual that had nothing to do with vanity. Once a week, they would take a handful of coarse sea salt, fold it into olive oil pressed that autumn, and work it across their skin until it flushed warm and alive. It was not a luxury. Rosina Quadracci knew this ritual by heart. She also knew that salt alone was only half the story. The Acquavena Organics Salt Gommage is built on that principle. Gommage — the French term for an exfoliant that works both physically and chemically — is the right word for what this formulation does. A dual-grain blend of Mediterranean sea salt polishes at two depths, while hibiscus flower powder delivers natural alpha-hydroxy acids that gently resurface skin at the cellular level. The result is not just smoother skin, but fundamentally renewed skin.

The carrier is jojoba wax — technically a liquid wax ester, not an oil — chosen because it is the closest thing in nature to the sebum your own skin produces. It absorbs cleanly, rinses without residue, and leaves behind only what your skin actually wants to keep. Sea buckthorn, one of the rarest and most nutrient-dense botanical oils available, contributes omega-7, carotenoids, and the unmistakable golden colour that tells you this formulation is working with real, uncompromised ingredients.

SALT & BLOOM — The Golden Botanical Gommage

A warm, golden, dual-action salt gommage scented with sweet orange, rose geranium, Atlas cedarwood, and ylang ylang. Two grades of sea salt — ultra-fine for polishing, coarser for deeper exfoliation — are suspended in a jojoba and meadowfoam wax base and enriched with three botanical powders: hibiscus for natural AHAs, matcha for antioxidant depth, and calendula for post-exfoliation calm. Sea buckthorn oil delivers omega-7 and a luminous amber glow.

The scent: Bright sweet orange opens into the rosy warmth of geranium, grounded by cedarwood and a whisper of ylang ylang. It is golden, unhurried, and quietly luxurious — like late afternoon sun on warm skin.

What Makes It Work

Hibiscus Flower Powder — Known in botanical skincare as “nature’s retinol.” Rich in natural alpha-hydroxy acids (malic and citric acid) that gently dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells, accelerating cell turnover and brightening tone. This is the ingredient that transforms a salt scrub into a true gommage — working chemically even as the salt works physically.

Sea Buckthorn Oil — One of the rarest botanical oils in skincare. Uniquely rich in omega-7 (palmitoleic acid) — the exact fatty acid found in human skin sebum — along with carotenoids, lycopene, and a concentration of natural vitamin E unmatched by any other plant oil. It is deeply regenerating, barrier-restoring, and responsible for the gommage’s signature golden colour.

Jojoba Wax Ester — Not an oil — a liquid wax that mirrors the structure of your skin’s own lipid barrier. Jojoba absorbs quickly and completely, leaving dramatically less residue on skin and shower surfaces than conventional carrier oils. It is also one of the most oxidation-stable cosmetic ingredients available, contributing to the gommage’s long, preservative-free shelf life.

Matcha & Calendula Powders — Matcha (green tea in its most potent, whole-leaf form) delivers concentrated polyphenol antioxidants that protect freshly exfoliated skin from environmental stress the moment it is exposed. Calendula — a centuries-old wound-healing botanical — calms and soothes skin that has just been physically resurfaced, reducing any transient sensitivity.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil — A Pacific Northwest wildflower oil prized for its silky, fast-absorbing skin feel and exceptional resistance to oxidation. It complements jojoba as a secondary carrier, adding a velvet finish and extending the formulation’s stability without synthetic antioxidants.
