Roots & Ritual is Acquavena Organics' premier bar, and its most elemental. Built on three botanical roots trusted by herbalists for centuries, it's a cleansing bar that works from the earth up.

Dandelion root. Burdock root. Green tea. These are not decorative ingredients. They are the water. Each root is simmered into a deep botanical infusion, strained, and chilled before it ever touches the soap batch. The lye dissolves directly into these infusions, drawing the plants into every molecule of the bar at the most fundamental level. There is no plain water in this recipe. There never has been.

The result is a bar with a grounding, earthy-fresh character: clean without being sharp, botanical without being floral. The scent opens with bergamot and rosemary, then vetiver and lemon dry down to something deeper. Benzoin resinoid anchors the whole composition, holding the fragrance long after the bar leaves the skin.

How It's Made

Roots & Ritual is handcrafted in small batches at the Acquavena Organics studio. The saponification process is completed during the cook, which means the botanical extracts, rosehip superfat, and fragrance blend are added only after all lye activity has ceased. Nothing is lost to the chemistry. Everything added at the mashing stage is preserved intact.

Each batch yields approximately 50 to 53 bars. Minimum cure time is four weeks. At six to eight weeks, the bar reaches its peak: harder, denser, with a richer lather that lasts significantly longer.

The Botanicals

Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale)

One of the most nutrient-dense roots in the botanical world, rich in vitamins A, C, and K. It enters this bar twice: as the simmered infusion that forms part of the lye water, and as a concentrated 10:1 glycerin extract added post-cook once saponification is complete. Carries its brightening and detoxifying compounds into the bar at the foundational stage.

Burdock Root (Arctium lappa)

A deeply cleansing root valued for centuries for congested, oily, and blemish-prone skin. Like dandelion, it enters the formula twice: as part of the botanical lye water and as a concentrated post-cook extract. Anti-inflammatory and sebum-regulating. Works in tandem with dandelion for an all-skin-type positioning.

Green Tea (Camellia sinensis, 50% EGCG extract)

The most antioxidant-dense botanical in the formula. Standardized to 50% EGCG, it supports the skin's defense against environmental stressors and lends the bar its fresh, green character. Used as the primary lye infusion and added again as a concentrated powder extract after cooking.

Rosehip Seed Oil (Rosa canina)

The sole superfat, added post-cook and fully intact. Rich in essential fatty acids and naturally occurring vitamin A precursors. Provides a nourishing finish that conditions skin after cleansing without any heaviness.

The Fragrance

Bergamot FCF: bright, citrus-forward, lifting. Always bergapten-free for photosafety. Rosemary Leaf Oil: herbal, green, clarifying. Vetiver Root Oil: earthy, smoky, grounding. Lemon Peel Oil (steam-distilled): clean, sharp, fresh.Benzoin Resinoid: warm, resinous fixative that anchors the composition and extends wear on skin.

Opens green and bright. Dries down to something rooted and quiet. It wears like the moment just after rain in an herb garden.

How to Use

Wet skin with warm water. Rub the bar between palms or directly onto skin to build a lather. Massage in gentle circular motions, then rinse thoroughly. Pat dry and store on a draining soap dish between uses. The high palm and cocoa butter content means this bar wears significantly longer than softer formulas.
