Vintner's Ritual is the only bar in the Acquavena collection built around the vineyard. Acquavena red wine — alcohol removed, polyphenols intact — is folded into the bar at the mashing stage, after cooking, when the chemistry is done and the formula is ready to receive what heat would destroy. Grapeseed extract and pomegranate extract go in at the same stage. The resveratrol, proanthocyanidins, and ellagic acid from all three survive because they're added at the moment they can.

The lye water is hibiscus and green tea, steeped separately and combined — not the dandelion and burdock root trio that runs through the rest of the collection. Hibiscus brings its own anthocyanins and natural fruit acids to the base; green tea brings the polyphenols. Together they give the bar its deep burgundy color before the wine ever touches it.

What you end up with is a bar that smells like a working vineyard at dusk: geranium, vetiver, patchouli. Grounded. Earthy. Nothing citrus, nothing sweet. It's a different register entirely from the rest of the line, and it's meant to be.


How It's Made

Vintner's Ritual is handcrafted in small batches at the Acquavena Organics studio. The hibiscus and green tea infusions are prepared separately 24 to 48 hours ahead, combined, and chilled before the lye is added. The saponification process is completed during the cook — which means the wine, the extracts, and the essential oils are added only after all lye activity has ceased.

The wine is heated gently to 60°C to remove the alcohol, then cooled before it touches the bar. This step preserves what makes it worth adding: the tannins, the resveratrol, the polyphenolic compounds that don't survive fermentation only to be boiled away in production.

Cure time is 4 to 6 weeks. The bar comes out of the mold deep burgundy to maroon. It lightens and deepens slightly as it cures, and the fragrance settles into the earthy, resinous character it holds through the life of the bar.


The Botanicals

Acquavena Red Wine (Vitis Vinifera Fruit Extract)

From the Acquavena Vineyard. The same ground, the same grapes, the same craft — pressed and carried into the bar post-cook. Alcohol removed at 60°C to preserve the polyphenolic compounds that matter: resveratrol, tartaric acid, and a dense spectrum of tannins with real antioxidant and skin-firming activity. No other bar in the collection carries it. No other bar could.

Grapeseed Extract (Vitis Vinifera Seed Extract)

Proanthocyanidins (OPCs) — among the most potent antioxidant compounds in any botanical source. The skin-firming, collagen-supporting story of the vine, concentrated into the seed. Added at the mashing stage alongside the wine.

Pomegranate Extract (Punica Granatum Fruit Extract)

Anthocyanins, punicalagins, and ellagic acid. Ellagic acid in particular has a well-documented effect on skin tone and photoaging. Works in concert with the wine and grapeseed to form a three-part polyphenol complex: three distinct botanical sources targeting free-radical damage and skin resilience from different angles.

Hibiscus Infusion (Hibiscus Sabdariffa)

Forms half the lye water, replacing plain water at the foundational stage. Rich in anthocyanins and natural fruit acids (malic and citric) that carry into the bar at a molecular level. Responsible for much of the bar's deep color and contributes gentle exfoliating activity alongside the cleanse.

Green Tea (Camellia sinensis, 50% EGCG)

Forms the other half of the lye water and re-enters at the mashing stage as a concentrated 50% EGCG extract. Antioxidant protection built in twice at two different depths.

Rosemary Oleoresin Extract

A natural antioxidant preservative that protects the oil phase from oxidation throughout the bar's shelf life. No synthetic preservatives. The formula is stable without them.

Rosehip Seed Oil (Rosa Canina)

The sole superfat, added post-cook and fully intact. Essential fatty acids and naturally occurring vitamin A precursors. Conditions and renews skin after cleansing.


The Fragrance

Geranium (Pelargonium Graveolens): rosy, slightly herbal, grounding. The floral element without sweetness. Vetiver(Vetiveria Zizanoides): earthy, smoky, deep. The backbone of the blend. Patchouli (Pogostemon Cablin): rich, resinous, lasting. The fixative that holds everything together on skin.

No citrus. No brightness. This is the other end of the collection — rooted, warm, unhurried. It wears like earth after rain, with something darker underneath.


How to Use

Wet skin with warm water. Rub the bar between palms or directly onto skin to build a lather. The tannin-forward formula produces a rich, creamy lather that rinses particularly cleanly on oily and congested skin. Massage in gentle circular motions, then rinse thoroughly. Pat dry. Store on a draining soap dish between uses. Suitable for face and body.
