Notte Vessel
the carved quiet of midnight

Thrown, carved while leather-hard, and fired twice. The glaze moves differently in every firing, so this one can't be repeated. When it ships, it's gone.

There is a particular quality to the hour just after midnight in the countryside — the darkness is not flat but layered, and anything pale catches the faintest light and holds it. A white flower in a black garden. A cream-colored stone on a dark path.
Notte is that contrast made permanent. The low wide dome is matte cream and sandy, hand-carved with a botanical leaf pattern — loose, organic, drawn before the firing with a tool rather than a brush. The carving catches shadow and releases it depending on the angle. Below, the body is jet black and deeply glossy, reflective enough to hold the room around it.
It is the most dramatic vessel in the collection. It asks to be placed where it will be noticed — a dark bathroom shelf, a stone counter, a bedside table where it will catch the last light before sleep.
Care
Hand wash only. Do not submerge or place in dishwasher. Stoneware is water-resistant and will deepen beautifully with age and use.
One of one. When sold, this vessel leaves the collection.

About this piece
Glaze & firing
Every vessel is thrown on the wheel, carved while the clay is still leather-hard, then fired twice. The second firing is where the glaze decides what it wants to do.
Wood-ash and celadon glazes break and pool differently depending on where a piece sits in the kiln, how thickly the glaze was laid on, and how fast the kiln cooled. That's why no two come out the same, and why the one you're looking at is the only one of its kind.
Small variations in the foot, the rim and the carving are the record of a hand rather than a mould.
Care
Wash by hand with warm water and a soft cloth. Avoid the dishwasher, which will dull the glaze over time.
The pump is a standard 28-400 fitting, so it can be replaced from any supplier if it ever wears out. Rinse it through with warm water if you switch between a soap and a lotion.
Stoneware is durable but not indestructible. Keep it off the edge of the counter.
Hand-packed shipping
Each vessel is wrapped by hand, double-boxed with a cushioned void between the two, and insured for its full value.
If a piece arrives damaged, send a photograph of the box and the piece and we'll make it right. We'd rather hear about it than have you live with a chip.
